what is pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact movement practice that focuses on strength, control, flexibility, and body awareness. It's suitable for all fitness levels and ages, and can be adapted to suit a wide range of needs and goals.
what are the benefits of pilates?
Regular Pilates practice can improve posture, core strength, flexibility, and balance. Many people also find it helps with stress relief, injury prevention, and recovery. At TMC, our classes are led by qualified instructors who tailor movement to you.
is it suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. We suggest doing 6-8 grounded reformers classes and 4-6 grounded mat classes. Our instructors will guide you through everything. If you're unsure where to start, get in touch and we'll help find the right class for you.
whats the difference between mat and reformer?
Mat Pilates is performed on the floor using your own body weight, while reformer Pilates uses a spring-based machine to add resistance and support. Both are effective — reformer classes tend to be smaller and more personalized, while mat classes are a great way to build foundational strength.
what should i wear?
Comfortable, form-fitting active wear is best — you want to be able to move freely. Grip socks are required for reformer classes and are available to purchase at the studio if you don't have a pair - this is for your own safety!
what do i need to bring?
Just yourself and a water bottle. We provide all the equipment you need.
what types of classes do you offer?
We offer reformer and mat classes, one on one rehabilitation reformer Pilates and one-on-one private sessions.
how many people are in a group class?
Our reformer classes have a maximum of 8 participants, and our mat classes up to 16. This keeps things personal and ensures you always get quality instruction and attention.
how long are classes?
Mat and reformer group classes are 50 minutes. Rehabilitation and private reformer Pilates sessions are 40 minutes.
how do i know which class is for me?
Not sure where to start? Reach out and we'll help match you to the right class based on your experience, goals, and any injuries or conditions.
If you are brand new to Pilates, we always suggest 6-8 Grounded reformer classes and 4-6 Grounded mat classes. We always welcome you to sign up for a private reformer class if you prefer one-on-one.
how often do i come?
It completely depends on you and your goals. For rehabilitation, we suggest at least once a week plus your at home exercise program from your physiotherapist. For group classes, we suggest 2-3x per week, the more you come, the quicker you'll see results and feel stronger.
can i drop in or do i book in advance?
Booking in advance is essential as our classes fill up quickly. You can book online through our booking system where there are options to purchases a drop in class, a pack or a membership.
what if i need to cancel my reserved spot for class?
We require at least 6 hours' notice to cancel a mat or reformer class, and 24 hours' notice for one-on-one privates or rehab Pilates sessions. If you cancel late or don't show up, drop-in and class pack clients will forfeit a credit. Unlimited members will be charged a $15 late cancellation fee. We know life happens — if something unexpected comes up, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.
what if i'm running late?
We're unable to admit latecomers more than 5 minutes after class has started. This is to protect the experience of everyone in the room and to ensure your safety. We recommend arriving with time to spare, especially for your first class, to get settled in and find your spot.
what is rehabilitation pilates? how does it differ from reformer classes?
Rehabilitation Pilates is a clinically guided form of Pilates designed for people recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or working through a specific physical concern. Classes are one-on-one and more tailored than general Pilates. They are overseen by our physiotherapist.
do i need a referral for rehabilitation pilates?
No referral is needed, though many clients are referred directly by our TMC physiotherapist. If you're unsure whether rehab Pilates is right for you, just get in touch with us.
can i do pilates with an injury or chronic condition?
Yes — Pilates can be a wonderful tool for managing injury and chronic conditions when delivered appropriately. Our rehabilitation Pilates classes are specifically designed for this, and our instructors will always adapt movement to suit your needs. If you are confidently joining a group class, please tell your instructor prior to class.
